EB’S JOURNEY TO MOTHERHOOD

Being there for my sister Ebony through her pregnancy, birth, and recovery is something I’ll treasure forever. It was such a special experience and a beautiful reminder of how important support and continuity of care are for women during this massive life transition.

Eb had a healthy, low-risk pregnancy, but like most mums-to-be, she faced a few challenges—nausea, low iron, fatigue, and some hip pain and pelvic discomfort. As her Osteopath big sis, I was lucky enough to support her with treatment for her pelvic and hip pain, pelvic floor assessments, and a personalised exercise plan to keep her strong and comfortable. We also spent time prepping for birth—talking through what to expect, answering her questions, and making sure she had all the resources she needed to feel calm and confident.

Then, on the 26th of June, baby Olive decided it was time to make her way into the world. Labour started slowly, with contractions gradually building through the afternoon. Eb and her partner Cal were at home using a TENS machine, breathwork, music, and movement to stay in the zone. I arrived around 7pm to help support her, and by 10.30pm, we headed to the hospital.

Once we got there, Eb worked so hard through the intensity of a posterior labour. Movement, the shower, and counter-pressure were her go-to comforts. Watching her dig deep, stay focused, and lean into the process was nothing short of incredible.

After hours of hard work, Olive Grace Bourke finally arrived around midday on the 27th—a gorgeous, healthy baby girl. Eb was amazing, having a minimal-intervention, physiological birth, even though things didn’t quite wrap up there. After some waiting and manual techniques, she needed a quick trip to theatre for placenta removal. Thankfully, it was a straightforward procedure, and she and Olive were reunited soon after. Seeing her breastfeed and bond with Olive was such a special moment.

Now, six months later, both Eb and Olive are thriving. It’s so rewarding to look back on that time and feel grateful to have been a part of it. Eb’s journey was a powerful reminder of how valuable personalised, continuous care is—not just for the physical challenges but for the emotional and mental side of pregnancy, birth, and recovery.

I’m so proud of her and so in awe of all the mums out there. Bringing new life into the world is no small thing—it’s raw, beautiful, and utterly transformative. 🤍
